Research project: Uptake, translocation and toxicity of microplastics isolated from shellfish in human gut cells.

Currently I am working on the research project concerning the uptake, translocation and toxicity of microplastics isolated from shellfish in human gut cells under the sponsorship of the ZonMW Microplastics & Health programme. This projects fits within a scientific collaboration of the Open University of the Netherlands with Soegijapranata Catholic University (Unika) concerning “Microplastics in coastal seafood in Indonesia: risk assessment and food safety” (see this BBC item). The research will be carried out at Hasselt University in collaboration with Wageningen University & Research and Unika.
