Research project: Physicochemical characterization of silver nanoparticles in the food additive E174 and study of their uptake in human intestinal cells by EM.
Currently I am working on the development of an analytical TEM-based method to visualize silver nanoparticles into intestinal cells combining particle localization (STEM) with chemical composition determination (EDX). The nano-properties of Ag NPs that occur in the food additive E174 (silver) and related products will be examined in relation to their uptake in intestinal cells, intracellular fate and cellular responses. The resulting data will allow an improved exposure and hazard assessment of E174, in the context of a risk analysis.
